SETUP & CARE

Each Black Cane reed is individually set up and tested before dispatch. Small adjustments can be made to suit your instrument and playing preference.

STRENGTH & AIR DEMAND

The rubber O-ring bridles control the movement of the reed tongues.

Moving a bridle towards the stock end of the reed will increase the volume and the amount of air the reed uses.

Moving it towards the rounded end of the tongue will refine the reed and reduce its air demand.

Move each bridle only a small amount at a time, then test the reed before making another adjustment.

PITCH

A tuning screw is located inside each reed.

Turning the screw clockwise will flatten the pitch. Turning it anticlockwise will sharpen the pitch.

The reeds are tested at a pitch of 484 Hz. Make tuning adjustments gradually.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Check the reeds regularly to ensure that no foreign material is trapped beneath or around the tongues.

We recommend replacing the O-ring bridles approximately once every 12 months to help maintain consistent tension and performance.
